New Ideas

Fresh Perspectives from Delta Kelly Elementary in Rochester

I recently visited Delta Kelly Elementary in Rochester and came away with new ideas for digging deeper into teacher and student thinking.

Thinking on Display:  A New Idea for Displaying Student Thinking
May 2014

When thinking is made visible,  it gives us ways to better understand the learner, the learning process and the outcomes. One way that we make thinking visible is by putting artifacts of thinking and learning on display in our rooms and hallways.  Many teachers have moved away from the practice of displaying every student's thinking in every display.  Below is a picture of another idea for displays.  This bulletin board displays a sampling of the thinking of different students from the variety of learning opportunities woven throughout the unit.  This grouping presents a dynamic picture of the thinking and learning that took place throughout this unit rather than a freeze frame of one moment in time.
